How to Relax in a Disgusting, Evil World

I hope these tips are helpful

It’s hard out here. It’s ok to acknowledge that. It’s ok to be mad or just overall upset. The issue is constantly being exposed to bad shit. Yeah, I know it’s a privilege to be uninformed. However, do you think it benefits the underserved community to sit on your phone scrolling and listening to god awful things? Or would it be more helpful to have the energy to go to community events and volunteer in food drives?

The constant influx of bad news is preventing you from being able to make actionable changes. Instead, it swaddles you in fear.

I digress, here are some methods to relax and improve your wellbeing.

FIRST OF ALL: GET OFF THAT DAMN PHONE

The news WILL find you someway. You don’t need to be constantly attached to your phone to access it. Someone WILL inform you in distress. A notification from a news app WILL pop up. Alot 1 hour of social media max per day. Maybe 2 hours if this is very challenging.

Now that you’re off your phone, here are the tips:

  1. Scream in your car or a pillow

  2. Take a bath

  3. Make yourself a hot or cold beverage depending on outdoor conditions and mood

  4. Draw

  5. Write a letter to someone you hate and then burn it (or send it, I’m not the boss of you)

  6. Cry while playing an instrument

  7. Angrily create something because you believe you can do it 100x better than that asshole

  8. Lay on the floor with a crystal atop your chest while you drift away. Call it meditation, call it a nap. Regardless, you probably need either

  9. Make pancakes

  10. Light a candle or incense next to a window

  11. Play with an animal. Can be yours or anyone else’s. Just don’t steal it

  12. Talk to the spider in the corner of your room

  13. Clean

  14. Go out. Get outside of your house. Take a walk around the neighborhood. Smoke on your porch. Sit on a park bench. Sip a drink at a bar or a non-alcoholic beverage at a place of your choice.

  15. Read Nietzsche

  16. Listen to Pixies

  17. Do a crab walk

  18. Attempt a handstand

  19. Polly Pocket ritual

    MOST IMPORTANTLY:

  20. Talk to people! Join a community. Meet up with friends. Send those texts from your bed! Lots of other people are miserable right now. It’s a great time to find solace in each other. You aren’t alone.
